Berlin Science Week – Hungry for Science



Falling Walls and Berlin Science Week invite you to this year’s World Science Summit, held remotely from 1 – 10 November 2020. 
This year we shift from physical events to a global virtual showcase, with free digital access for everyone. We acknowledge the combined effort of scientists worldwide to overcome the pandemic, and its many effects. Make sure to attend this event, where some of the world’s best researchers gather to discuss and celebrate the most recent breakthroughs in science and society from all over the world.



Designresearch x Science: Wie gestaltet man interdisziplinäre und fakten-basierte Zukunftsbilder für öffentliche Debatten?

Das Symposium findet im Rahmen des »Food Fiction« Projektes statt, das vom BMBF im Rahmen vom »Wissenschaftsjahr Bioökonomie 2020« gefördert wird. Mit dem Projekt »Food Fictions« geht das Center for Responsible Research and Innovation (CeRRI) des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation IAO der Frage nach, wie nachhaltige Lebensmittelsysteme und Esskulturen von morgen gestaltet werden können und zeigt spekulative Entwicklungen einer nahen Zukunft auf.

Forschungsziel des Projekts ist es, designbasierte Methoden für partizipative Wissenschaftskommunikation im Bereich Lebensmittelinnovationen zu erproben. Die Zukunftsszenarien beruhen auf wissenschaftlicher Grundlage: Forschende aus vielfältigen Disziplinen rund um Ernährung fungierten als Patinnen und Paten für die Szenarien. Ihre Forschungsthemen und Ergebnisse wurden in fünf Szenarien in spekulative Objekte übersetzt, um sie gesellschaftlich zugänglich zu machen.

Das Hungry for Science Symposium präsentiert das Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit und gibt Einblicke hinter die Kulissen des Projektes. Dazu laden wir unsere Expert*innen dazu ein, ihre Forschung hinter den Szenarien zu präsentieren.

Hexenküche Pop-Up Shop #4: Samhain Edition

We are very excited about this special SAMHAIN edition of our Hexenküche community pop-up.

Come by our 4th joint event with Berlin’s witches, alchemists and herbalists in the witchiest season of the year.

According to Irish mythology, Samhain (like Bealtaine) was a time when the ‘doorways’ to the otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world.
Tradition holds that Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest and the start of the coldest half of the year, and with this transition it’s also celebrated as the beginning of the spiritual new year – this is also why it’s nicknamed “The Witches’ New Year.”

We are excited to share these special days with you and will prepare something a little different this time:
Dedicating our time and the shop space to ritual & care, as well as celebration of life & death.

We will have the HERBAL BAR set up on Friday and Saturday with tasty seasonal treats headed by Edible Alchemy. There’ll also be hot apple cider & (rum) hot chocolates & candy apples. And a cozy gazebo to take shelter from whatever the weather throws at us.

We can’t wait to see you there to spread some magic!

We will keep you save with only 4 people in the shop at a time, with masks only pls – outside is a large area (partly covered) to stay distant yet enjoy your rum hot chocolate or hot cider while soaking up the Samhain magic.

Vegan CheeZes, Dips and Sauces

We will take a taste-trip around the world and discover various fermented vegan dips, sauces and spreads.

Each participant has the opportunity to open their taste buds and discover their own flavor pallet for their very own fusion-fermented cheese, dip or sauce with the information gathered at the workshop.

Tonights focus is on vegan CHEESES, DIPS and SAUCES using various types of protein rich grains, seeds, nuts and beans. Our events are INTERACTIVE and INFORMATIVE. Through taste, touch, sight, smell and discussion we will explore the fascinating microbiological processes that turn grains, beans and seeds into probiotic cheezes and dips.

Each participant will get to sample all the various tastes and join in the discussion about the benefits of fermented foods. There will also be a do-it-yourself probiotic dip / spread / sauce making station so everyone can go home with their very own creation.

In an anti-bacterial age, fermentation is quickly becoming a lost art. We are here to reclaim it as an energy efficient food-preservation technique which is rooted in our cultural histories. We are captivated and inspired by the way fermented foods engage our senses and enhance whole food eating..
